On a recent trip through SB my colleagues and I made LaSalle Grill our lunch destination before takeoff; a choice we were all happy we made. The decor is nice; clean and upscale. The service was friendly, prompt and attentive and the food very good. The majority of the menu items sounded delicious, but I chose the Antelope. Farm raised in Texas and grilled to perfection. Simply delicious and something I'd recommend you try if it's available. Quick Tip: CHECK-IN! I did so, and received a free appetizer! Score.

Absolutely our favorite fine dining restaurant. Superb first class service. Menu is diverse with expertly prepared dishes. Wait staff at other dining establishments would be well-advised to observe how LaSalle Grill does it. We'll be back--often.

I am pleased that LaSalle Grill now offers both a vegetarian and a vegan entree on their daily menu, plus they are clearly labeling all other veg and vegan items on the menu. So far I have eaten vegan entrees twice from the new menu and they were creative and delicious. The management was also very responsive when I suggested that they indicate whether or not the cheeses they use are vegetarian (meaning cheeses that are made with vegetarian rennet, not animal rennet). It has always been a great restaurant, and they were always willing to prepare something on the spot for vegetarians and vegans....but now they are putting thought and creativity into menu items to suit these eating styles. Good job, and thanks, to LaSalle Grill!

Went there for Valentine's day and was not impressed. Greeted by a rude host to start. Food all tasted good but it was the first time in my life that I sent a steak, or any food for that matter, back to the kitchen. Ordered medium rare and it was atleast medium well. When it came back out it was lucky to be rare. The waitress knew this as she asked me about 4 times if I wanted them to cook it longer. I said no thanks I'll just put it in the microwave at home. I won't ever be going back. Save your money and go to Outback Steakhouse.

I have never dined here "regularly" but we did have our rehearsal dinner here for our wedding about a year and a half ago and had a fantastic meal and great time. We had to special request the upper level (there are 3 levels and they usually use the 2nd level for special events, but it's pretty boring, not very pretty, and the ceilings are kind of low and make it seem a little claustrophobic), and we were so glad that we insisted upon it because it was the best situation possible. It was so beautiful up there, the bar in the middle was fantastic, there was a little stage where announcements, speeches, and introductions could be made, and the food was outstanding. I only took 1 star away because it is a bit pricey, but the ambiance and reputation probably have a lot to do with that. Great time overall and worth it.

I was looking for a great evening with a great food and left thoroughly underwhelmed. Because I arrived in very casual clothes, I asked to be seated upstairs. Last time I was there, a few years back, it was a great place to drink and eat. The menu was incredible. This time around, I found that they have moved their focus to beers and a minimalistic menu for those who go to the top floor.. The first course, a caprese salad, came out so fast it could only have been prepared in advance and sitting in a cooler. It was okay, but the heirloom tomatoes tasted store bought and not ripe. Meh. For the main, I ordered duck. It came out neither hot nor cold. A scoop of wild rice on the side, with some unadorned green beans. The beans were the best part of the meal. Seriously. The server hovered regularly...until it was time to pay the bill. It was getting late and I still had a drive ahead of me and wanted to leave. I actually did something that I don't recall ever doing before. I got up and walked my tab and my credit card to the bar counter, where he was engaged in conversation with a co-worker. I know that this establishment is highly respected for its amazing ambience and food. My experience this last week did not hit the mark. Not even close. Sorry, LaSalle Grill, but I won't be recommending you any time soon.

For an upscale restaurant, this place felt relaxed and comfortable while still high end. A great start if you ask me. Servers were polite and attentive. Food was amazing! My boyfriend and I visited for restaurant week. We had the risotto and baked brie for our appetizers. Both absolutely delicious, with generous portions. I had top sirloin for my entree which was great, but my boyfriend's upgrade to the filet was truly fantastic. Great preparation. Dessert was good as well. I highly recommend the blueberry crumble with homemade vanilla ice cream if it's available. Though this place is not inexpensive, the combination our great food, service, and atmosphere make it worth the price. Treat yourself! Excellent evening here! One I'll remember for a long time!

I always have a nice experience at LaSalle Grill. My go-to entrées are the steak au poivre or the Indiana duck. The creme brûlée is THE best anywhere. No one brûlées like LaSalle! Sometimes we just go for that and a cocktail. From what I hear from my girlfriend, the cosmopolitan here is unmatched.

Traveling through South Bend for work and stumbled on LaSalle Grille after a quick google search. It was packed on a Monday night so we were excited when we got right in. Server was knowledgable and answered all of my annoying questions. Did the 3 for $33 restaurant week special but when the server figured out it'd be cheaper for us to pay off the menu price, and then TOLD us, we thought that was great and someone who didn't care about upselling his customers for the sake of his tip. Only qualm - both people ordered the duck confit with gnocci, one person got more duck confit than the other. I missed out on my duck, man!

Easily one of the best dinners I've had in a long time. I thoroughly enjoyed the Filet Mignon and my wife (the vegetarian) had an amazing portobello dish with white beans.

We had a reservation after the Louisville vs. Notre Dame game back in November, and greatly enjoyed our experience. The food was great, a bit on the pricier side for South Bend, but we were greatly impressed by the selection of drinks, and the cuts of meat. We were sat right away, and our server was a grad student at Notre Dame. She was lovely, and very attentive to our needs, therefore the service was great. After we left, and before we got back in our party bus, we were given great instructions of what bars to hit in South Bend. Very good place, and we would go there again!

A bit of an odd experience. We were here for a going away party that was hosted in the tavern upstairs, but our food came from downstairs. Either way the rating goes to both locations. Overall the service and food were good. The prices were a little higher than I'd normally like to pay, but since the meal was covered and considering it is a high end restaurant the prices were fair. My husband had the rack of lamb and cheese platter as a "dessert", my brother (who lucked out getting in on some awesome free food while he was in town) had the bone in rib eye and the cheesecake for dessert, and I had the deer with my first attempt at creme brûlée for dessert. Hubby enjoyed his food, but didn't feel like he had enough. Turns out he would have done well ordering some sides or a salad starter a la carte (a feature that really racks the bill up). Brother dear had the best dish of the three of us. The rib eye was amazing, and HUUUUUGE! At $38 I would say it was reasonably priced for this restaurant. He also loved his cheesecake...which I also tried. He said it was the best cheesecake he had ever had and I agree. For context we have had a lot of cheesecake and even have a family friend who owns a cheesecake company, which now stands as the second best cheesecake we've ever had. :-) Oh but it was a little small. I was not so impressed by my deer. There wasn't much food on my plate, although I did enjoy the potatoes that came with my deer. The deer was okay. I ordered it rare, and it came a little closer to medium than I like my meat. It also didn't taste like deer. I supposed they seasoned it to take the wild taste away, but that's why I like deer for the wild taste. Since I didn't get enough food to start I decided to give creme brûlée a try. I'm glad I did. Even though the sugar crust was a little thick, and hard to get through, the custard was amazing. I can see us venturing to this location again. Not often given the price, but for special occasions it will be on our list of possibiities.

Disappointing, especially for the price. I came here during Restaurant Week to try this place out, based on the good reviews. Bread: This was a complimentary appetizer while we choosing what to order. There was a nice assortment of breads, and my favorite was this amazing white bread. It was soft, warm, and slightly sweet. This came with some olive oil for dipping. Appetizer - clams & mussels in tomato fennel sauce: I didn't really like this, but that was probably just because I don't like clams and mussels. The broth tasted very much like seafood, and there was a slice of bread on the side. I gave this to my SO. Main course - steak with potatoes and green beans: -Steak: Disappointing. The meat was largely flavorless and dry. The sauce it was covered in didn't do anything to help the taste. -Potatoes: These were my favorite part of this dish. But I guess how can you mess up potatoes right? These were soft on the inside and had a hint of sweetness. -Green beans: These were fine, nothing special. Dessert - creme brulee: This was good! The top was crunchy and toffee-like. The custard inside was smooth and rich. There were a few berries on top as well, which was a nice touch. Service: Eh. There was nothing really wrong with this; our waitress just wasn't as friendly as I would expect for a nice place like this. I didn't really see a smile. Environment: This is a nice place, although some of the artwork felt kind of out of place. The dining areas look clean and fresh. Overall, this place wasn't bad, per se. I just expected more from the reviews and was disappointed. Maybe this place is good for South Bend, but I would rather spend my money and calories at someplace else.

So I came here a few weeks after going to the renowned Gibson's steakhouse in Chicago, and, to be honest, I came into dinner expecting a letdown. I was glad I was wrong! I ordered the New York Strip Au Poivre, which was really, really good. It was perfectly cooked to a medium/medium-rare and very comparable to the steak I had at Gibson's--maybe even better?? My only problem (which was probably just my ignorance in ordering) was that my steak came out pre-sliced. To me, there is something really satisfying about cutting into a giant piece of meat, and I guess I felt somewhat deprived that night. Either way, the steak was AWESOME, among the best I've had. I also can't go without mentioning the absolutely delicious gorgonzola mac n cheese. If it's on the menu that night, order it, you will thank me later. As for the restaurant itself, you will definitely feel under dressed in anything less than a collared shirt--as most people seem to be dressed in business casual attire. I sat at the bar on the main floor, which was kinda lame. I've never seen it myself, but the upstairs comes highly recommended--I'll definitely give this a try next time in town.

Try the Sea bass if they have it. First time in, felt a bit out of place in my casual clothes.. Nice, small interior, great service. Expensive beer. I was in line for a free dinner (work related) and picked this place. I literally went on my phone, did a search for $$$ restaurants near South Bend and this place came up so we went there. I was happy with the choice, especially when the main course came out. Wow, melt in your mouth sea bass with some decent sides. Didn't want to push it so we didn't have any apps or deserts but I wanted to.. Hope to be back to try some of the apps (lobster tail corn dogs sounded awesome!) and deserts. Thanks Lasalle Grill for making my stay in South Bend even better.

I went to LaSalle with my family during graduation weekend. The food was good, but not memorable or distinctive. I did enjoy the decor - art is a great collection of post-modern works and very much my style. If food and decor was all that makes a restaurant, LaSalle would have gotten a 4/5. Unfortunately the staff was poorly managed, at times rude, and not worth the price the restaurant charges. We arrived for our reservation about a half hour late - graduation events ran a little late and 90% of the night's patrons showed up late for the first seating. This was fine as we still had 3.5 hours before the next seating began. Our waitress was friendly, but the food was taking a long time to come out of the kitchen. When we finally got to dinner (about 2 hrs into the meal), 2 of the steaks were mixed up (sent to the wrong table) and had to be recooked. Even if it was the correct type, I probably would have sent the first steak back either way as it was burned and half the advertised size. After finishing dinner we put an order in for coffee, but before it was delivered a manger rudely asked the head of the table if we would be ordering desert and reminding him that we only had 30 minutes left. Considering that their own miscues and slow service added an hour to the meal and that our bill at this point was +$700, it was unbelievable that they would try to hurry us out. Looking around the restaurant, I could see the same moron sorry I meant manager, pulling the same routine at a few other tables. I will never go back and expect that party's host will send a letter to AAA questioning the restaurants ranking.

This is a good restaurant with great service and nice ambiance. However, the food tonight was not up to speed with the class this restaurant wants to convey. I usually expect that a $40 steak asked to be cooked medium well not to be burnt. It was like paying for a great wine and drinking a cheaply one. We will not come back.

We recently went to Club Lasalle for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Wild horses couldn't drag me into the dining room for the Lasalle Grill which felt like a combination of a church and a nursing home. However, Club Lasalle was pretty great. Casual, friendly, laid back and featuring the same food as they have in the main restaurant. The service was attentive, the drinks were tasty and strong and the food was excellent. Also, I was able to enjoy a Nicaraguan cigar along with an Old Fashioned which pretty much made my year. Definitely only a special occasion type of place unless you're one of those fancy schmancy types with but good nonetheless.

Excellent service and food well prepared. The filet mignon was excellent but don't miss the trout. Start things off with the flat bread and you can't go wrong. Enjoy!

This restaurant is as fine as it gets, not just in South Bend but for miles around (think Chicago). We go for the wine and food pairings which they have monthly (next month, March, is a James Bond motif, what fun!) We have never been disappointed and we are what people call "foodies" (honestly we don't call ourselves that but we know we are in that category). The service is so excellent, with everyone checking to see that all of it is right. The food is art, the setting is gracious, the bustle is muted energy. Go to LaSalle if you're looking for more than just eats. This place will knock your socks off!!

I've had two enjoyable experiences here. --I love the ambiance with the high ceilings and great windows, a wrap-around bar, and a variety of seating areas. --The food is to die for - on the high end for South Bend but a good price for the quality and when you look at the prices on the LaSalle Kitchen menu. The mac & cheese small plate will activate all your nerve endings. --The beer list is thoughtful and enticing with some hidden bargains (a 9.8% imperial IPA for $4?) and their cocktails are well-prepared with an interesting mix of fresh ingredients (I am in love with this bourbon-mint-fresh watermelon thing). --The service is very good, without being stuffy - no hint of the white-tablecloth properness you'd get (and expect) downstairs, just friendly attentive service. --They often have live music later in the evenings. It can definitely be loud and dim when there's a performer on, so keep that in mind if you're looking for a conversational dining or bar experience. --Check out the super-serious dog portraits in the restroom hallway for a giggle.

***NOT a gluten free friendly restaurant*** In accordance with their lovely website, we called 36 hours ahead to reserve and explain my mom is GF and vegetarian, "When you call for reservations, just let us know what your needs or requests are -- gluten free, low sodium, Weight Watchers® compatible, vegan, vegetarian, peanut free, lactose free." Yet none of this was conveyed to the server on our arrival and she was clearly unprepared to recommend GF dishes (since none were noted on the menu) and she made us feel like asking was an annoyance. After the small plates, the server had to be asked for EACH course what was GF when she should have offered in advance! my mom didn't order dessert for this reason so clearly this hurts their bottom line. Furthermore, 7/8 dishes were served lukewarm, which doesn't help mediocre food. My duckling had a layer of fat that should have been rendered out, which is so sad because the menu made everything sound amazing and well-sourced! bourbon creamed spinach tasted like frozen bland spinach. I had to assert myself to get a second glass of wine, again seems like the server and restaurant would want your bill to be bigger. I don't want pushy service, but I expect my needs to be anticipated at these prices! As a South Bend native and now a New Yorker, I was super excited to visit the fancy restaurant that was always name-dropped about town. How disappointing. Carriage House service is 100% better and their food delivers for the price, even if the menu is more traditional and old school. I will not be coming back since none of the dishes seemed close to perfection and the service was borderline rude.

I made a reservation on Friday night, wanting to try "the best restaurant in town." Before arriving, I didn't realize how formal it was! I was wearing jeans, a nice blouse and casual shoes. I appeared very underdressed, as women in dresses and men in suits sat among us. The host who seated me (maybe it was a manager) was in a full suit and tie. He stared me up and down multiple times and made me feel super out of place. I let it pass. We were seated and given waters immediately. Our server greeted us, then left. Ten minutes passed and we didn't see her again. No drink order, nothing. So, we got up and left. I went to Ruth's Chris, where everyone is always welcoming- despite your attire and you get great, attentive service! I was extremely disappointed in LaSalle Grill!!

It thought it was really special... But it wasn't. Our waitress although very friendly and attentive struggled to properly convey food allergies to the kitchen staff. But was quick to apologize and correct it. The food was good. But the risotto and scallops, to different dishes tasted the same and had zero acidity to them. They were just too rich in tasting... to oily (and it wasn't even EVOO which would have brought much needed flavor to the dishes). All the food lacked salt. That is a basic. Everything needed salt to draw out the flavors. In the end it was way overpriced. For two people the meal was over 300 including tip. The next day we ate in Chicago, the streeterville area at a wonderful italian restaurant. Ordered the same amount. The service was better, the food was WAY better, we were in CHICAGO not South Bend, and the bill was just over 150.

What used to be perhaps the nicest restaurant in town is now outdated and overpriced. Being new to town we got the low-down on all the "nice" restaurants (e.g., Cafe Navarre, Corndance, LaSalle). We were excited to finally try LaSalle's, but the experience was disappointing. I ordered a filet - a good meal to judge restaurant and chef quality. Cut of meat was just okay, came out dry, and had that "oh-no" hamburger taste to it. Try Corndance or Navarre for a perfectly cooked, flavorful filet. My wife got one of the chicken meals, nothing to write home about. Regarding the atmosphere, it was loud and overcrowded. Don't be fooled by the white table cloths, this place is best avoided for other options until they can refresh their image and menu.

Went to the Kitchen tonight (formally Club LaSalle)....food and service was awful, pretty disappointed. In response to Mark's (the owner) asking for more details on our experience. The experience started out with our server and her lack of knowledge about the drink specials and the beers (which by the way is a great selection). She was very soft spoken , we had to ask her several times to repeat herself and her knowledge of the menu was not impressive at all, especially since the menu is not that extensive. We have dined downstairs on many occasions, typically for business since we don't live in the and our service has always been incredible professional unlike last night. In addition to the service e the food was NOT impressive at all. Each dish lacked flavor, as if the chefs forgot to add seasoning. The mushroom soup had absolutely no flavor and the Mac and cheese had very little cheese, it was basically noodles and butter. . I am not one to write bad reviews but when I do, I do so in hopes for improving areas that may need some attention. I am a sales professional and know the importance of customer service and being able to anticipate your customers needs

I walked in on a Thursday evening without a reservation looking for a nice meal to finish off a business trip. It seemed to throw the staff off a touch that I walked in alone without a reservation, but they quickly found a table for me. My waitress was very very good! Finally decent service in this town on my last day! The waitress recommended the peach and berry martini so I went with it and it was very good and nice and strong! The waitress was also very knowledgeable about the items on the menu. When I asked about the lamb dish she was honest and said that most people find it gamey-aka I probably wouldn't like it- so I went with the salmon and was not disappointed! The salmon was a good sized filet and was not flakey, it was borderline under cooked but it wasn't. It was moist and the wild rice and corn salsa was an amazing complement of flavors! I couldn't get enough, even when I was stuffed! The main reason I took off a star was that I paid $6 for a house salad that was literally just greens with what tasted like Olive oil coating the leaves, as well as that my molten chocolate lava cake was over cooked so the lava was nearly baked into the cake and there was a hard crust around it. The ice cream was delicious. But for how much those extra courses costed I was expecting the same level of perfection and awesome flavor as the main course. On a super awesome note, the table next to me was reserved and had a card on the table. When the people arrived for their reservation they wished the woman a happy birthday and gave her the card. Also, the manager came up to the table to wish her a happy birthday. The birthday lady got the lamb and the manager asked how it was and she was luke warm about it and he offered to get her something else even though her plate was almost clean. There was another table of regulars that came in and when they sat down the waitress had a soda on the table for him before he even scooted his chair in. They clearly take their service seriously and appreciate their return customers. If I lived here I would probably keep going back for special treats (at $30 a plate) due to their incredible service.

I came here during restaurant week after reading many of the good reviews here on yelp. The decor is very nice and clean. This is definitely an upscale restaurant where very man is wearing a collared shirt. The service was also very nice, however, I was expecting the server to be a little friendlier. For instance, at other upscale restaurants when a server is asked what desserts or specials there are tonight they don't usually just hand over a list but instead recite them. The food we were served for restaurant week was fairly bland, even though it was all listed on their regular menu. We tried the beat soup, the mussels, the steak, and had creme brûlée for dessert. I would not recommend any of these appetizers or the entree, however, the dessert was pretty tasty. It had a perfect glazed shell and the custard worked perfectly together. 2-Stars for the food and 1-Star for the atmosphere.

We very much enjoyed Lasalle Grill. The food was amazing and the menu is always changing. The chef has fresh ideas and the pastry chef makes the best cheese cake I have ever had. Forget high end chains this is the place to go when in ND country.

We celebrated our wedding reception in the Colfax Suite at LaSalle Grill this past weekend. WOW! We already knew the service and food were great from other events we have attended at LaSalle so We obviously wanted to choose the best venue for our intimate wedding reception of 36 guests. From start to finish the entire staff was outstanding! Linda made sure to provide us with everything we needed to ensure our event was flawless! Andrew the manager was also present during to make sure things went according to plan. We also want to thank our service team Vicky, Alyssa and Mark for providing stellar service for dinner and our bar! The food was perfect-our guests were giving compliments all night! We would recommend LaSalle Grill for all events. They can even accommodate smaller dinners as well as larger ones in the other rooms! We also reserved the newly finished patio-an absolute MUST if you are booking the Colfax Suite! Thanks again! -Ashley & Matt

I've been to this place perhaps a dozen times over the last 6 years or so, always in connection with my job at a local university (we entertain job candidates and visiting lecturers at several of the best restaurants in town). With that experience, I feel I can certify that this place is consistently excellent. I've never found anything lacking in the service or the preparation. As for foods, I've tried everything from beef steaks to antelope loins, pork chops, rack of lamb, assorted seafood specials--you name it. The accompaniments are always likewise excellent. I think the menu changes quarterly to reflect seasonal changes. Desserts are also great, but I'm not a big dessert fan in any case. My impression is that grilled/seared foods might be their strongest offering for carnnivores, but really everything is solid. Overall, this place seems to me like the surest bet in town for an efficient, excellent, high-quality meal. The only local competition at this level are places I haven't tried (Carriage House), have tried once but find no better and perhaps a tiny step lesser (Cafe Navarre), or places that I LOVE but which are iffier in how efficiently they proceed (Ciao's).

As good as always. Andrew met us at the door and showed us to our table. Service was 1st class as was the meal. This is more than a meat house. Our ladies had Sea Bass that was excellant and we had the pork chop and thew flat iron steak which were also excellent. .

Wow. Very classy. My boyfriend took me here last week and, except for the noise factor (it was crowded), I loved it. The service was good but a little slow (probably because of the crowd). We had the tomato soup first and it was good. I don't usually order fish, but I ordered the walleye as suggested by my boyfriend. It was delicious! He got the steak and really loved it. And for dessert, we had the lava cake... yum. My boyfriend said that you get what you pay for! Great place for a date night or a special night out with family/friends.

This place is one of the best reasons to call South Bend home. In fact, since I'm moving to Indy, Lasalle grill will be one of the places I'll miss most. I've been dining here for more than 20 years, and the consistency, quality and excellence keeps me coming back. Tonight's meal began with a bowl of Thanksgiving. They called it sweet potato bisque on the menu, but it was spoonful after warm spoonful of homey goodness. Topped with a delicious dollop of lightly tandoori-tinged creme fraiche, this was a great way to start. Let's not overlook the martini with a hint if absinthe. The bar here is terrific. And when it comes to the wine, Zoren is the best sommelier ever. Ever. Italian beans, tomatoes and mushrooms served as the foundation for perfectly cooked Artic char surrounded with crumbly pine nuts. Deeeelicious. And the haricots vert on the side? Just right. I'm skipping dessert tonight because I have to. I ate a ton of birthday cake this week. But there is always a list of options I love. Service equals the excellent food. I've been here enough to feel like I'm visiting friends...and I am. If you live here, lucky you. If you are visiting, get yourself here. You'll love it.

I am visiting from Miami and searched on Yelp for dining options. The service here has been great. I started with the soft shell crab, which is currently in season, and seems to be being pushed by every restaurant in town ( as either the app or entree). It was delicious and free (Yelp gave me a coupon for a free app or desert for checking in). For my main course, I went with the smaller filet (6 oz) and the manager let me switch in the Mac n cheese with Gorgonzola. Very good, but unless you really like Gorgonzola you may want to try something else. Overall I had a great dinner and will come back on my next business trip.

As a resident of South Bend,I have tried most of the fine dining restaurants in the area. Somehow the lasalle grill was missed. That will not happen again. Our dinner last night couldn't have been better from atmosphere, friendly, capable wait staff, wonderful food well prepared and presented artfully and special touches like a "birthday menu and card." Will definitely return.

I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner here; my husband and I enjoyed great service and a leisurely dinner. Decor and ambiance were nice. The strip steak and creme brulee were especially quite good. We also liked the wine flight pairing with our meal for $15 each (3 glasses). This is one of the few nice places to go for a special occasion or a business dinner in the area.

This is a real classy join with excellent food. Went here on a business trip with colleagues for dinner. It's a good thing we go there early because the place filled up pretty quickly with reservations. The crowd seemed like "old money" type elderly people, but the service was excellent. Our server was able to answer all of our questions, presentation was great, timing was great. Even though I didn't care for the particular flavor of the sauce on my chicken, it was still good and high quality (once I started eating I remembered I don't care for the flavor) so I still ended up devouring it. We didn't check it out but they apparently have a smoking lounge upstairs. Coming from Chicago it was a good value, and pricing seemed reasonable for south Bend.

We loved this place! Not knowing where to go in South Bend i jumped on yelp to help us on our little search for something fabulous. The entire experience was just what we were looking for. Amazing food all around for our table of 6! The service was perfect. You know when you go to a high end, well, anything theres a good chance of it being upitty and snobby. I hate that! The people at Lasalle Grill were so cool and accommodating to our goofy and overly talkative table it made the night. Its hard to say what i loved the most. But when you drop a few bills on dinner and you don't bat an eyelash that just tells me the whole package was worth it!

After hearing so much about what people call "the best restaurant in town," I couldn't wait to try it. However, I was so disappointed. The environment leaves a lot to be desired. The chairs and table clothes look like they belong in a retirement center. The meals were ok. I got the filet mignon, and it was a nice piece of meat. I've had better, I've had worse. Nothing to write home about. The appetizers and desserts were all so so. What really bothered me was the atmosphere. It was like they couldn't decide if they were fine dining or trashy. There was a man who kept pestering us to buy the flaming coffee drinks for dessert. He was literally hovering over our table---- like the men in Rome who try to sell you roses and once you make eye contact they follow you around the rest of the night. Overall, I just can't justify such high prices for such mediocre food and service

Much better food than the steakhouse menu suggests. From homemade breads to homemade ice cream, everything was top notch the night we dined there. I will try something more ambitious than steak on my next visit. This is a gem of a place by any standard.

This is another of my favoties place in South Bend. Never had a bad meal. Now they are open at lunch on tues and thurs. The Delux Burger served only at lunch is the best burger I have ever had! The staff are truly professionals.

Very classy and well designed restaurant. The service is impeccable and the maitre'd was very friendly and invested in our satisfaction. The food was good but not good enough to justify the price. I ordered the rack of lamb. Very flavorful, but the portion was slightly smaller than what I expected. I also had the mushroom soup to start and that was very hearty and thick, which I like.

This is as upscale as it gets in South Bend! The Dining Room bustles, the bar can be intimate or boisterous, the Jazz Club is often jumping and the food and service is par excellent! You can count on seeing Mark the owner, his protege Andrew and perhaps his daughter Lauren....they along with a dedicated staff will give you a trendy evening to enjoy! The steaks are prime and the Amish Chicken is sublime!

My wife and I consider ourselves foodies. We enjoy traveling and picking out the "best" restaurant wherever we go and checking it out. These places are always compared to our local "gold-standard" the LaSalle Grill. How does the grill compare to our destination dining? Usually favorably. The overall experience here is what brings us back and makes it the basis for comparison. The atmosphere is energetic, classy and relaxing all at the same time. The service is impeccable - they are knowledgeable friendly and always make for a perfect evening. The cocktails are well prepared, sizeable and appropriately strong. The wine list has good diversity and selection. The menu always has something a little different but long time favorites remain. The proteins are well cooked. The sides and sauces compliment well. Gorgonzola mac and cheese is indulgent and should not be missed. The desserts are in a word "craveable". You can certainly find better meals in the big cities. The bottom line is that when away from home we often spend much more for a meal that is not as good as at LaSalle Grill.

After years of coming to South Bend on business and hearing about this restaurant I finally got a chance to go. My overall reaction, meh. The salad could have come out of a bag from my local Jewell-Osco. Nothing special, at all. My chicken was okay. Again, nothing special. My husband and nephew thought their food was okay. My son, on the other hand, said his steak was the best he's over had, and he's had quite a few. Overall, nothing horrible, one great steak entree. The deciding factor for me between assigning three or four stars, was the feel of the place. A little "Foofhie" for moi!

Apparently the favorite special dinner restaurant (valentine's, graduations, visitors in town) in South Bend. I think my sis-in-law summed it up when she said "this is the best restaurant in the Midwest......not including Chicago." Excellent, friendly service, nice bistro-like atmosphere with woods and plush banquettes, and a delicious eclectic menu. A separate bar lounge with cigars (and Chopin dirty martinis), and an upstairs jazz club too. Nice. We ordered so many things. (I figured out I ate 8 animals in one sitting, ew...) Everything was unique and tasty tho. Prosciutto-wrapped fresh mozzarella in phyllo. Provencal-stuffed portobella mushrooms (our fave). Fresh ricotta raviolo with pomodoro. Texas antelope with adzuki and white beans (delicious!!). Atlantic salmon with parmesan polenta. Crab-stuffed trout with rice primavera. Lobster and escargots in a heavenly lobster butter sauce. Pesto tilapia with lobster newberg sauce. And duckling with something.. (at that point, I was done.) Great desserts, altho none were as good as the cheese plate, imo. Served without bread to be authentically French. A sheeps milk like Istara, stinky soft cheese and New Zealand blue...with soaked pears and candied sliced almonds. Great dessert drink menu (and wine list for that matter - sommelier is on the floor at all times), including 6 types of Grappa (why??). Great meal.

The LaSalle Grill is absolutely amazing! I usually have the Filet Mignon or one of the amazing Seafood offerings, but last week I had the duck and it was out of this world. Go, no run to LaSalle and have the duck. You will not be dissapointed.

The crown jewel of the downtown South Bend dining experience, this is a guilty pleasure to be enjoyed only on meaningful occasions. The cocktails and menu items are beyond delightful, and coupled with the unique presentation, makes for a memorable experience. There is so much to experience here, that brings a bit of the upper-crust feel of the bigger cities to South Bend, but one can get caught up in the moment and forgot where they are at until the bill comes. Don't come for the portions, but do come for the presentation and one-of-a-kind food, drinks, and atmosphere.

VERY disappointing. Probably experienced the worst service of my life at the LaSalle Grill tonight. Probably a 1-star experience, but the food was good enough to get 2-stars. Most meals were nearly cold when delivered (including fish and steak!). Took 15-20 minutes to get refills on drinks. Very loud. A horrendous experience for a VERY expensive meal. This might be one of the better restaurants in South Bend, but in general it doesn't compare to moderately decent restaurants in other cities across America.

I have given this restaurant several chances and I want it to succeed because there are not a lot of fine dining choices in the area, however, LaSalle Grill is not what it aspires to be. First, the service is mediocre. There are a couple good servers but if you are not lucky you will get a server who does not know the menu and lacks attentiveness. The kitchen tends to get its steaks right but its other choices tend to lack flavor. The side options can also lack imagination. Perhaps the worst aspect of the restauarant is that its management is arrogant and this attitude is reflected in its visions of grandeur that do not match with its reality. In fact, the decor is dated, the lighting is bright as a Denny's (as I recall) and if you have the misfortune of sitting in the bar area it is not uncommon for the bartender to badmouth their local competition and offend if you happen to disagree with his politics. This is not what I expect for the prices that this restaurant charges. With proper management, all these errors are fixable but the management thinks that it is at the top of its game. This is the problem.

My review is MEH too. I don't agree that this is the highlight of South Bend restaurants - you haven't eaten in too many places if you think so. This place is high priced and here is where you do not get what you pay for. You get less. We went here for a light bite after a play (yes, South Bend does have plays as well) and we both had soup, salads and my husband had a martini and I had an iced tea. Yikes - way overpriced!. More than the play cost us. Our friends ate full meals, rack of lamb, salmon and some beef dish and they loved it. We just weren't that hungry but maybe if we had ordered those things, we would have liked it more. I won't go back.

My review is going to be mostly on Club LaSalle, which is on the third floor above LaSalle Grill. The atmosphere is completely different than the general restaurant. I'll agree with some of the comments about the restaurant's decor trying too hard, but Club LaSalle is more our style - modern decor, lighting and leather couches. The food is good (both upstairs and down) and the cuts and temperature of the steaks are terrific. However, we go to Club LaSalle for the live music (terrific jazz combos), cocktails made by Dean and a good cigar. If you eat in Club LaSalle, there is smoking so be warned. However, if you are looking for great drinks, great cigars and a great atmosphere, Club LaSalle is your place.

If your looking for the perfect classy night, this is the place to be. But if you are looking for a nice classy night without having to take out a mortgage, I suggest eating elsewhere. Maybe dinner at The Vine or Trio's and drinks after at Club LaSalle located above LaSalle Grill.

    (3)
  • Wink B.

If really good food and great service make you sick and uncomfortable, do not dine here. Not only is this place at the very least a top contender in local fare, it is also an excellent value. If one were to buy items of similar quality at Trio's or the Vine, one would spend twice as much. God forbid the Oyster Bar. The menu varies as the seasons do, but you can expect the freshest, usually local ingredients prepared most skillfully. Do you like beer, wine, and booze? They offer a huge and stunning selection of all three, and the bartenders are the best around.

YES.. compared to what the rest of the dump that is South bend has to offer.. then ok, this is South Bend's gem. My ex insisted he take me on our first date here and no where else in south bend. Eh.. It's ok and to be frank, it's a wannabe fancey schmancey restaurant serving mediocre food. I'm sorry but I can see right through its fluff. Definently not all that, but in South Bend- you really have no choice now do you.

After many years we returned to LG with high expectations. SO let down! Experience sub-par in almost every way. Even with a reservation, placed in an "overflow" party area with tables packed together and not enough heat. Served a "fresh" green salad with lettuce that was going bad. Server ordered the wrong dish, though I ate it anyway thinking it might be fine--the "special" sea bass with a blah oversalted cream sauce. Spouse had the most bland vegetarian pasta I've ever tasted. And everything WAY overpriced for the quality. Years ago this place really knew how what they were doing, but they're milking a reputation for all they can. They need to turn people away when they can't handle them and instead get back to quality.

    (1)
  • Em J.

What's with all the stacking of food??? That is so 90s. Also, seems to be some sort of attitude (from the overflow diners seated upstairs) toward smokers in the cigar lounge. It's a cigar lounge, get over it. Club LaSalle should do a better job of informing people they seat upstairs that there will be smoking going on... and lots of it!

This review is from a different perspective than the other reviewers I suspect. My basis this review is based on a one time visit. However, from what I can tell from my fellow reviewers their description is very close to how I would describe the Lasalle Grill. Last evening as a part of a party of five I had the pleasure of dining at the Lasalle Grill for my parents 25th Wedding Anniversary. Being the only one in the family with experience at fining dining establishments - due to my job description not my paycheck I was ready for a nice meal in South Bend for once. But adding to the mix that this would surely be the most expensive meal my parents had ever ordered made me a little nervous. Upon arrival I was immediately taken in by the decor and ambiance of my surroundings. I had no idea such class existed in South Bend. The wait staff was courteous and very accommodating to the fact that we had never dined here before. They took time to explain the menu and the history of the diner to us, and even bought out an appetizer compliments of the chef. While appetizers, soups, salads, breads, and drinks were consumed plates were cleared, replaced, and refilled without any delay. The wait for the main course was a little longer than normal but the presentation was fantastic. Around the table the order went: Amish Chicken, Mahi Mahi, New York Strip, Duck, Flatbread (margarita-ish). Being a good reviewer I took the opportunity to sample the courses from around the table - we were all family - and everything was fantastic! The chef even gave my parents a gift for their anniversary upon the completion of dinner, a great finishing touch to the night. With a daily rotating menu set by the days chef I can understand why this is a local favorite. However, as other reviewers have stated it is a place best reserved for special occasions. For a quick summary of prices I would say appetizer - $8 - $15. Salads - $8 - $11. Main Course - $19 - $40 (with most falling closer to $30). Desert - $8 - $13. As you can see prices do start to add up quickly, and the food presentation, ambiance of the restaurant, and menu options make it easy to splurge and feel like in the end it was worth the extra few dollars. Their wine list was called by one family member the wine encyclopedia and for good reason - there seemed to be a wine for every taste, budget, and part of the world somewhere in the 15 page booklet on the table. I highly recommend the Lasalle Grill for special occasions, but would say reservations are a must. While I'm sure children are allowed the prices are one that should keep most parents from bringing the kids along. I did not get a chance to visit the Cigar Bar and music lounge upstairs, but that will only make coming up with a reason for a return visit that much easier. Highly recommended to everyone for a least a visit once!

Score.

The LaSalle Grill is absolutely amazing! I usually have the Filet Mignon or one of the amazing Seafood offerings, but last week I had the duck and it was out of this world. Go, no run to LaSalle and have the duck. You will not be dissapointed.

Great meal.

Excellent service and food well prepared. The filet mignon was excellent but don't miss the trout. Start things off with the flat bread and you can't go wrong. Enjoy!
